Our law firm is a limited liability partnership and most decisions are made by majority vote. However, the firm relies heavily on Linda Parks, its managing partner, for day-to-day operational decisions. While Parks claims this means only that she "has the authority to pick out the firm Christmas card," in truth, the firm relies on her to represent the firm in the community and to lead the firm in policymaking and in reaching consensus. Her business skills are invaluable in this position, and her dedication of time to the firm’s administration is key to its success.
To our knowledge, Linda leads the largest law firm with a female managing partner in the region. And her dedication to the leadership of women in the practice of law has resulted in 9 of the firm’s 23 attorneys being women--a significant change fromthe days when Parks was the only woman at the firm’s previous incarnation and the only female partner for more than 11 years.
Outside the firm, Parks is a known leader, having served as president of the Kansas Bar Association. She has further promoted the leadership of women in the practice with her co-founding of the Kansas Women Attorneys Association in 1994 and her leadership in the Wichita, Kansas and American Bar Associations. Parks has served on the Wichita Bar Association’s Managing Partner’s Committee under that organization’s diversity initiative. That committee spearheaded an effort to develop “best practices” for recruiting and retaining under-represented groups in Wichita’s firms as associates and partners in significantly higher numbers than in the past.
